Learning Vocabulary Gossary

absorb - to take in a liquid, gas or other substance form the surface or space around ซึมซับ ดูดกลืน
act - a law passed by a country’s government พ.ร.บ. พระราชบัญญัติ
administrative Court - the court which deals with disputes between the private sector and government agencies ศาลปกครอง
alleged - claimed to be true although not yet proven ที่ถูกกล่าวหา
amnesty - a situation in which a government agrees not to punish people who have committed a crime การนิรโทษกรรม
arrest - (of the police) to take someone to a police station because they are believed to have committed a crime จับกุม
attorney-general - the top legal officer in some countries, who advises the leader of the government อัยการสูงสุด
authorities - people who have the power to make decisions or enforce the law เจ้าหน้าที่ผู้มีอำนาจ
bill - a proposal for a law ร่างกฎหมาย
benefit - (verb) - when an activity does good things for someone ผลประโยชน์
benefit - to help someone มีประโยชน์ต่อ

bitchy - rude or cruel about or towards someone else; often talking unkindly about other people ซึ่งพูดให้ร้ายคนอื่น
blackout - a loss of electrical power ไฟดับ
block - to use your power to stop something from being done or from succeeding กีดขวาง
bold - very bright, clear, or strong in colour and therefore easy to notice เด่น ชัดเจน
candidate - a person who is trying to be elected ผู้สมัครรับเลือกตั้ง
charge - an official statement accusing someone of committing a crime ข้อหา
client - a customer or someone who receives services of a lawyer ลูกความ
commander - the head of an army or army unit or a high-ranking police officer ผู้บังคับบัญชา constitution - the set of laws and basic principles that a country in governed by รัฐธรรมนูญ
Constitution Court - a court which decides whether a government law, action, political party, etc., is correct according to the constitution ศาลรัฐธรรมนูญ
controversy - a strong disagreement, especially about a public policy or moral issue ความขัดแย้ง ประเด็นข้อขัดแย้ง
convicted - proven in a court of law to have committed a crime การกระทำผิดกฎหมาย
Corrections Department - the government department in charge of running prisons กรมราชทัณฑ์
counsel - a lawyer who gives someone legal advice and represents them in a court of law ทนายความ
Criminal Court - a court which hears criminal cases, i.e., cases where people are accused of breaking a law and where punishment involves possible going to jail. ศาลอาญา
defendant - someone who has been accused of a crime and is on trial จำเลย
deploy - (of police or soldiers) to put in place ready for action ส่ง (ทหารตำรวจ) ประจำการ
detain - to keep someone in a police station or prison and not allow them to leave กักตัว ควบคุมตัวหรือฝากขัง
dissolve - (of a group) to end ยุบ (พรรค)
extradition - sending someone accused of a crime back to the country where the crime was committed for trial or punishment การส่งผู้ร้ายข้ามแดน
illegal - against the law ผิดกฎหมาย
issue - to produce or provide something official; to announce something, or to give something to people officially ออก (กฎหมาย, คำสั่ง, พระราชกฤษฎีกา, etc)
joint - do some activity or project together; belonging to or shared between two or more people ความร่วมมือกัน
